WELLNESS in 2020 and beyond – where do we start?

Before March 2020, if you had to ask someone their thoughts on wellness, most would probably refer to eating right, exercising, drinking water and maybe trying to keep their stress levels down. But the occurrences of the last few months have brought wellness into sharp focus for the majority of the global population.
The first realisation we are waking up to is that wellness is not just limited to the food we eat, the exercise we do, or the supplements we use. Wellness extends into 8 different dimensions. These dimensions are recognised as physical, intellectual, emotional/mental, spiritual, environmental, financial, occupational and social. A deeper understanding of these different dimensions is taking place and the general population is starting to realise that for true wellness to be present, there needs to be a greater degree of balance in all aspects of our lives. We can no longer just focus on one or two visible areas and hope to sweep our unstable relationships or unhappy job situation under the mat.
But where do we start? Overhauling our entire lives for the sake of wellness can seem daunting, overwhelming, and such a massive task that we would rather just carry on as usual and hope things work out for the best.
So we start at the beginning. We start with the foundation. We start by answering the burning question of WHY. Why is our wellness important now? Why do we need to change something? Why is now the time to take action? When we create clarity around the point of origin (where we are now) and develop a vision of where we want to be, that vision becomes the driving force that will take over when willpower and motivation are low. Maybe you have realised that your health really hasn’t been your number one priority, and you want to take steps to learn how to improve it so that you can watch your children grow up. Perhaps you see that you have no job security, and need to explore other ways of creating a more stable, secure income so that you can fulfil your dreams of travelling the world. Or maybe you realise that you have so much inside creativity of you, but you have allowed the weight of “adulting” to silence that flow. Whatever it is, it is time to move from the comfortable to the uncomfortable, where growth happens.
If we want to make a shift, a truly life-altering-never-to-be-the-same-again change in our wellness, this is where we begin. When our why is big enough, the how becomes evident. By laying the groundwork, we have a solid base on which to become the architect of our health and create the life we know deep down we are worthy of. What that foundation is strong enough, we can then build upon our nutrition, our exercise, and all the other elements that make up our lives.
How are you changing your wellness right now? What steps have you already taken to take charge of your future, or are you still unsure of what to do next?
Join me as I, over the next few months, share with you the 8 dimensions of wellness, and how we can truly create a life that we are in love with.
